Day 1 • Los Glaciares National Park: El Calafate, Argentina – Boat trip to Viedma glacier 
Patagonia, a land full of myths and legends, literally located at the ‘ends of the Earth’. We will begin our comprehensive journey of discovery across this vast and contrasting region, right at the shores of the massive Lake Argentino, at the picturesque town of El Calafate. This is one of the largest lakes in South America and certainly one of the most beautiful as well, as is surrounded by the snowy peaks of the Andes and fed by numerous glaciers coming down from the Southern Patagonian Icefield. After meeting your guide, you will be driven north in direction to another vast body of water, Viedma Lake. In a clear day, you can appreciate the colossal amphitheatre of granite peaks surrounding the lake, including the dominant peaks of the southern Andes, Mt. Fitz Roy (3,405m / 11,171ft) and Cerro Torre (3,128m / 10,262 ft). You will take here a 2-hour boat trip to explore the cragged 2-km (1.2 mile) front (terminus) of Viedma Glacier. The scene is magnificent and colorful with the deep blue ice covered by parallel lines of debris filled morraines and flanked by tan-colored granite walls. This will be the first of several outlet glaciers we will explore on this tour, all belonging to the massive Southern Patagonian Icefield. Later you will be transferred to the charming mountain village of El Chalten, our base for the following two nights.

Day 2 • Sunrise at Fitz Roy Mt. viewpoint – Walk to Mirador Laguna Capri
This morning we will have an early start attempting to photograph a sunrise scene of the omnipresent Mt. Fitz and Cerro Torre from one of the viewpoints near El Chalten. These tall granite mountains are literally cloud magnets and we can consider ourselves very lucky if we succeed in experiencing one of the most famous and glorious sunrise scenes of Patagonia. The view is often stunning and shows you the rugged beauty of Patagonia at its very best. Both Mt. Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre have the reputation of being extremely difficult to climb mountains and have a very restricted record of successful expeditions. The trails of this section of Los Glaciares National Park attract hundreds of trekkers from all over the world and we will have the chance to explore one of them. Starting our hike from our hotel door, we will walk through lush and old southern beech forests (locally known as Lenga – Nothofagus pumilio). The walk to Laguna Capri normally takes two hours and we will do it at a fairly mild pace in order to have the opportunity to study the flora and fauna comprising several ground orchid species and other flowering plants; we hope to see the striking Magellanic Woodpecker, Austral Parakeet and other characteristic birds of this isolated woodland community. From Laguna Capri we will enjoy the commanding views of Cerro Torre and other peaks and glaciers of the region.

Day 3 • Sunrise at Fitz Roy viewpoint – Perito Moreno Glacier 
Another early start and the chance to photograph Mt. Fitz Roy at dawn. This massive granite peak was referred by the Aonikenk (or Tehuelches), a group of the Patagonian natives, as ‘Chalten’, meaning ‘smoking mountain’. After our sunrise photo session and a good breakfast, we will drive south towards El Calafate. Then, we will keep heading west to explore the southern portion of Los Glaciares National Park to enjoy the breathtaking views of the most famous glacier in Patagonia, the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier. It is quite difficult to describe the surroundings of this magnificent cathedral of ice but since we arrive there, you will be thrilled by its vistas and cracking noises. Perito Moreno is simply massive: covering a surface of 250 sq. km (97 sq. mi) and with a length of 30 km (19 mi), it is one of the most dynamic glaciers of the whole Patagonian Icefield as well. Its front is constantly producing massive calving and we can experience this by walking the extensive network of boardwalks and viewing platforms. Along the trail and besides from watching the dramatic jagged ice, we will have the chance to study a rich sample of Patagonian flora including three Nothofagus (southern beech) trees and the colorful scarlet blossom of Chilean Firebush, a tree/bush related to Proteas. We hope to spot Andean Condor, world’s largest terrestrial flying bird, which usually soars over these magnificent landscapes.

Day 4 • Boat trip to Lago Argentino and Estancia Cristina
Today we have the extraordinary opportunity to explore the northernmost part of Lake Argentino. We will start our day with a transfer to Puerto Bandera to take our boat. Then, we will cruise the icy waters of the lake for nearly three hours, watching impressive icebergs and having splendid views of the Uppsala Glacier, one of the largest outlets of the Southern Patagonian Icefield. Around noontime we will arrive to Estancia Cristina, an old Patagonian ranch and the perfect base to achieve panoramic views of the icefield. To do so, we will be taken on 4×4 vehicles along mountain paths. The scenery drastically becomes breathtaking and after a short, mild hike we will reach one of the viewpoints from where we can have Uppsala glacier, the surrounding blanket of ice and the peaks of the southern Andes, all at once. This wild beauty is the result of ice-retreating events experienced during the last thousand years, which have been accelerated in recent times. As a matter of fact, the front of Uppsala glacier, once one of the widest of all Patagonian glaciers, has recently split in two.

Day 5 • Drive to Puerto Natales, Chile
Early in the morning you will have a private transfer to Cerro Castillo. Then, we will head towards the picturesque coastal town of Puerto Natales, where there are gorgeous vistas of Última Esperanza (‘Last Hope’) fjord, with tens of stunning Black-necked Swans feeding along the shore.

Day 6 • Mylodon Cave and walk to Cerro Benitez – Board M/V Sorpios III – Cruising Kirke Narrows, Morla Vicuña & Sarmiento channels
The luxurious Hotel Remota is located on the shores of Última Esperanza Fjord and is the perfect setting for our upcoming explorations of the Chilean fjorland. We will have a busy day before boarding our cruise during the evening. After a delicious breakfast we will set off to visit Mylodon Cave Natural Monument, an outstanding cave formation that sheltered a large array of long-gone Pleistocene mammal species, including the Giant Ground-Sloth or Mylodon darwinii, which occurred in the area around 12,000 years ago, when most of the surroundings were still covered by glaciers. Later, we will explore the northern cliffs of Mt. Benitez in order to see and photograph Andean Condors which usually roost here. By 4pm we will head to the local pier and board the M/V Skorpios III for the epic finale of our expedition in Patagonia. Skorpios III is a reliable 70-meter (210 ft) long, A1 ice-class vessel, owned by the Kochifas family, true pioneers of expedition cruising in this part of the world. After the safety briefing and the introduction to the Captain, his officers and friendly staff, we will leave Puerto Natales towards the pristine and remote region known as the Patagonian Fjords. Chilean and Peale’s dolphins, Antarctic Giant Petrels and King Cormorants will be escorting us towards the narrowest part of our expedition, the scenic Kirke Narrows. After dinner, we will keep watching from the observation decks to enjoy the scenery and wildlife of the upcoming Morla Vicuña, Union, Collingwood and Sarmiento channels until gets dark.

Day 7 • Patagonian Fjörds: Amalia & Brujo glaciers – Explore Calvo Fjörd 
The intricate and remote maze of islands and channels, known as the Patagonian Fjords, is located along the western flank of the huge ice field we have been exploring during the past week. It is a wild territory, sparsely explored and without permanent population; it is protected by a huge national park called Bernardo O’Higgins and holds several of the most spectacular yet less known glaciers of Patagonia. During the morning we will land at Amalia Glacier and walk across a path through pristine beaches and gentle ice-free slopes. Our target is a viewpoint of the whole glacier front, which has been rapidly, and steadily receding. Along the path we will study the colonizing flora, consisting of lichens, mosses and many herbs and perennial bushes. We hope to see interesting birds such as Kelp and Ashy-headed Geese, Flightless and Flying Steamer-Ducks, Magellanic Oystercatchers and songbirds such as Gray-flanked Cinclodes, Austral Blackbird, and Yellow-bridled Finch. Later we will visit another outstanding glacier: El Brujo (or Wizard). Due to the topography of the cove where it is located, we will have the rare opportunity to watch its ice formations from a fairly close distance. After a delicious lunch on board, we will spend the whole afternoon exploring Fiordo Calvo (Calvo Sound), in our opinion, one of the most stunning locations of the whole trip. Massive glaciers surround the fjord and the water is covered by ice of all shapes and sizes. To explore this outstanding location, we will have the convenient assistance of a smaller and more suitable vessel for this kind of ice conditions, the M/N Capitan Konstantino. This is a special vessel, specifically built by Skorpios, to give us privileged access to remote inlets and landing sites at this seldom visited amphiteathre of ice.

Day 8 • Patagonian Fjörds: Cruising the ‘Canal de las Montañas’ and Alsina & Bernal glaciers 
Another day exploring the Patagonian Fjords. We will wake up surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Sarmiento Range and the steep cliffs of Canal de las Montañas (the Mountains Channel). We will have a busy morning, walking and cruising, around four different glaciers including Alsina and Bernal. These pristine landscapes are well vegetated with evergreen woods, occurring here due to the heavy rainfall which constantly comes from the nearby Pacific Ocean. In the afternoon we will cruise the scenic White Narrows and hopefully we can see part of its rich marine wildlife including colonies of South American Sea Lion. We will have our farewell dinner while cruising the Almirante Montt Gulf, a grand finale of this interesting expedition to the Chilean fjordland. We will dock at Puerto Natales during the early morning.

Day 9 • Drive to Torres del Paine, Chile – Torres del Paine National Park – Laguna Azul and Sarmiento Lake
We will leave M/V Skorpios III after a leisure breakfast and head northwards to Torres del Paine National Park. At the eastern corner of Lake Sarmiento, we will reach a location that commands the most incredible views of the towering peaks of Las Torres (the ‘towers’), the granitic spires from which the park takes its name. As we move around the park, you shall observe confiding herds of Guanaco, most southerly relative to camels, the curious-looking Lesser Rhea and our first Andean condors along the road. In the morning we will visit the eastern side of the park to enjoy the views of one of the impressive waterfalls of Paine River and if it’s clear, of the fabulous granite columns of the Paine massif from Laguna Amarga. After our picnic, we will keep exploring the alkaline ponds and reed-fringed lagoons located on the eastern part of the park. There are approximately 120 species of birds in the park and we will see a considerable number of them, with the help of binoculars and spotting scopes. The flora is a very interesting subject for observation and photography as well. The park holds nearly 500 species of plants; the southern spring and early summer (mid-October through late January) is a great period of the year to see the myriad flowers that bloom in these magnificent mountain landscapes.

Day 10 • Boat trip to Grey glacier – Pehoé and Nordenskjöld lakes 
Today we will explore the southern and western regions of this huge national park (-242,000hectares/600,000 acres). The omnipresent Paine Massif, a magnificent set of rugged peaks of granite and sedimentary rock, dominates the landscape. The long-gone Indians of Patagonia gave it the name Paine, meaning “blue”, presumably referring to its remarkable colour when observed at a distance. We will have the opportunity to explore the Nothofagus or southern Beech forests to study its diversity of plants and animals and, if we are lucky, the shy Andean Deer or Huemul. The contrasting mosaic of towering mountains, glaciers, lakes and forests, will marvel us. Lake Grey is certainly one of the highlights of the day. Colossal icebergs are stranded on the southern shore of the lake after a long and slow transit from the glacier front. From here we will board our boat for a 3-hour excursion through the icy waters of the lake towards the impressive and active calving front of the Grey Glacier. Grey is one of the nearly 50 outlet glaciers that originate from the massive Southern Patagonian Ice Field, world’s third largest after Antarctica and Greenland, and is one of the most beautiful and colourful in all Patagonia. The front is full of crevasses and the solid glacial ice colours vary from whitish to deep indigo. The glacier is flanked towards the east by impressive granite walls, which are part of the Paine Massif, and towards the west, by the eroded and low summits of the older Andes. Photography is great at this particular spot. We will be treated with a glass of ‘Pisco sour’ or Scotch containing glacier ice hundreds, maybe even a thousand years old!

Day 11 • Drive to Punta Arenas – Estancia Cerro Negro – Punta Arenas
This morning we will have an early start in order to photograph the ‘Horns’ (Los Cuernos) at dawn. In the right light, the mountain base turns into orange colours and the scene becomes very dramatic with peculiar lenticular clouds moving fast over the peaks. Then we drive southwards to Punta Arenas, Chile’s southernmost city. On the way south we will visit Estancia Cerro Negro, a typical working sheep-farming station, where we will watch a shearing and sheep dog demonstration.

Day 12 • Boat trip to Magdalena Island – End of the tour 
We have prepared the last activity of our Patagonia expedition for this afternoon; we will sail out for Magdalena Island, in the waters of the mythical Straits of Magellan. This protected area holds a huge Magellanic Penguin colony of more than 120,000 individuals. Besides the penguins, several other species of seabirds such as Imperial & Rock Cormorants, Dolphin and Kelp Gulls, Chilean Skua and South American Tern nest here. While sailing towards the island for nearly two hours, we will have good chances of watching a variety of pelagic seabirds such as the magnificent Black-browed Albatross, Southern Giant Petrel, Southern Fulmar, Wilson´s Storm Petrel and Magellanic Diving Petrel, and also several marine mammals like South American Sea Lion, playful pods of Peale’s Dolphin and even the occassional Humpback Whale. Private transfer to Punta Arenas airport with assistance for connecting flights home. (Breakfast)

M/V Skorpios III

M/V Skorpios III was built in 1995 at the Skorpios shipyards (Puerto Montt, Chile) according to SOLAS and IMO rules, and ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) classification, class N° 951.93.18 A1 Ice. Her cabins and hotel infrastructure were remodeled in 2012. It is 70 metres long, has a 10 metre beam and a 3.30 metre draft, displacing 1,600 tons. She has an international loadline certificate, and registration N° 2869 issued by the Directorate General of Maritime Territory of Chile. She has a capacity of up to 90 passengers berthed in 45 double cabins and distributed in 5 decks; cabins offer twin, queen or king-sized beds. All cabins have private toilet facilities, plasma TV and background music and a safety box. The ship has two comfortable bar lounges, and an ample panoramic dining room.

To book this tour, please complete our online booking form. We will process your booking form and will send you (within 24 hours) a note with space confirmation and a deposit invoice with payment instructions. The deposit amount is US$ 500 per person. Full payment of the tour fee is due 90 days prior to tour departure.
NOTE: Inquires received on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays will be replied during the following working day.

Cancellation Policy
Notice of cancellation can only be accepted IN WRITING from the person who signed the booking form and takes effect on the day such noticed is received by us.

Refunds are made according to the following schedule:
• If cancellation is made 120 days or more before departure date, the deposit less US$ 200 is refundable.
• If cancellation is made between 120 and 60 days before departure, the deposit is not refundable, but any payments covering the balance of the fee will be refunded.
• If cancellation is made fewer than 60 days before departure date, no refund is available.
This policy and fee schedule also applies to pre-trip and post trip extensions, as well as any transfers from one tour to another. We strongly recommend the purchase of trip cancellation insurance to protect yourself.
