Every now and then, a new Covid-19 strain shows up, affecting certain parts of the world; however, it is evident now that we are certainly more protected than before.
Fortunately, traveling is possible once again without too many complications, restrictions and requirements.
We are glad to inform you through this post about the current situation in Chile, Argentina and the Falkland Islands.

Chile
Traffic light system (with 3 stages)
Level 1 involves communities with least Covid-19 impact, consequently with fewer restrictions and more liberties. This classification is dynamic, taking into account the current local situations.
The bulk of the communities right now lies on stage 2. This applies to the capital region of Santiago as well as to the two main towns in Chile’s far south, i.e. Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, amongst several others. The remaining communities of mainland Chile are mostly in stage 1. Post-Covid Chile Argentina Falklands
Regardless of this classification, the so-called Mobility Pass still applies nationwide. It certifies that the bearer has completed his/her Coronavirus vaccination scheme. One needs the Mobility Pass for entering any confined, publicly accessible area. Therefore only completely inoculated persons may visit restaurants, cinemas, sports centers etc. Supermarkets and other stores, where people usually stay only for a short time, are no longer subject to this requirement.
For non resident foreigners, the certificate of vaccination issued in the country of origin is equivalent to the Chilean Mobility Pass. Travelers from abroad therefore no longer need to have their certificate homologated by the Chilean Health Authorities in order to get the Mobility Pass. It is only recognized as such in combination with a valid identity document.
In communities of level 1 and 2 one must wear a face mask in any indoor, publicly accessible place. Outdoors the use of face masks only applies if one cannot keep a minimum distance of 1 meter (3.3 feet) to other persons. Post-Covid Chile Argentina Falklands
Health policies at the borders
Entering Chile currently involves a more relaxed set of measurements. Basically it only involves confinement measures in case there is a positive (or suspicious) case on the same airplane.
Being fully vaccinated is no longer a requirement to enter mainland Chile. If you don’t have a completed vaccination scheme, you may enter Chile presenting a negative PCR test result, obtained no longer than 48 hours before departure to Chile. Please note that this rest result only allows you to enter the country – it does not give you access to the Mobility Pass.
Easter Island (Rapa Nui) & Juan Fernandez Islands
Easter Island
After more than two years of nearly complete isolation, Easter Island (Rapa Nui) is open again.
There apply the following mandatory measures in order to enter Rapa Nui:
• Negative PCR test result taken no more than 24 hours before boarding
• Mobility Pass (certificate of vaccination and identity document for foreigners)
• Round-trip ticket
• Reservation at a tourist service registered in SERNATUR or invitation letter from the Provincial Delegation.
• 7-day health follow-up
Along with these requirements, passengers flying from abroad shall be tested with a mandatory antigen test upon their arrival on Rapa Nui
IMPORTANT:
• If a person presents a persistent positive result due to having been infected with Covid, two results shall be attached: a PCR or antigen test taken 24 hours before boarding, and a PCR taken more than 10 days before boarding and no older than one month.
• All travelers may be tested for Covid between the first and fifth day of arrival. If the passenger refuses or tests positive, this person shall conduct mandatory quarantine for the following 7 days.
• If a traveler is classified as close contact, the person shall carry out a 7-day quarantine from the last contact with the confirmed case.
Juan Fernandez Islands
The archipelago of Juan Fernandez is open again for tourism. Thanks to its positive epidemiological situation, it belongs to stage 1 of the traffic light system.
Argentina
In principle, Argentina does not have any travel measures or restrictions. Any traveller – no matter if he has a complete vaccination scheme or not – may enter the country.
Actions such as wearing a face mask, keeping a safe distance to others or ensuring good ventilation are only recommendations. For public events as well as for clubs and similar establishments, apply measures such as proof of vaccination for all the attendees. Post-Covid Chile Argentina Falklands
Falkland Islands / Malvinas
There are no further requirements or restrictions to enter the Falkland Islands. Certain companies and establishments, however, still request a negative Covid-test. Without holding one, passengers are not allowed to board boats or airplanes.
Persons traveling from the UK to the Falklands by South Atlantic airbridge need to hold a complete vaccination scheme proof. As an alternative, a recently obtained negative test result is also valid. Yet, it may not be older than 72 (PCR) respectively 48 hours (antigen). Without presenting one of these documents, boarding the plane will be denied.
After your arrival to the Falkland Islands, each traveller must get 2 self tests for detecting Covid. Their use is optional, though highly recommended. Travelers shall test themselves on the second and fifth day after arrival. This voluntary action contributes to the safety of all while the compulsory measures are eased.
