Dear friends,
And finally we have a more substantial travel announcement. Chile will be opening its borders again to foreign visitors, from the 1st of November 2021, and without the need of a multi-day quarantine period.
What are the requirements then?
Well, if you are considering to travel to Chile, then we must emphasize that this is not going to be a spur-of-the-moment deal. We need you to plan accordingly, and comply with all the requested documentation required by the local authorities at your arrival. By doing this, the entry process is going to be fast and efficient.
1. First, you will need an official health certificate, indicating that you have been fully vaccinated; this pdf document must contain information about which type of vaccine and the dates you were inoculated. Then you must login at [https://mevacuno.gob.cl], create an account as a foreign visitor (Extranjero turista) and upload this pdf health document. The local authorities will validate your vaccination scheme with a travel authorization. All the process is online and the validation can take up to 30 days; so, if you are considering to travel to Chile is better if you do this procedure at least one month ahead of your travel date. It is very important to do this by using the same passport number throughout the process.
2. Before 72 and 48 hours before you travel date to Chile, you need to fill out an online affidavit at [https://www.c19.cl/llegada-internacional.html] and upload an official negative PCR test result as well as your travel insurance, the latter clearly indicating that it covers medical expenses, with a minimum of 30,000 USD. After doing this, you will receive an electronic reply with a QR, which will be requested by the airline as well as at your entry to Chile.
3. At your arrival to Santiago International Airport, you will be tested again and this PCR test (nasal swab or saliva sample) will be your key to start your travel program in Chile. This result will be available from 12 to 24 hours, so the first night of your Chile itinerary must consider to stay in a hotel (in isolation), in order to wait for the result and start your trip the following day.
This is our summary for these three very important parts of the entry procedure to Chile.
I have recently travelled from Switzerland to Chile (October 8th, 2021) and my experience was positive as the system seems to be well-organized and efficient at the airport. It took me around 1 hour and 20 minutes from the moment I left the plane until I reached the baggage claim, passing through (a) the sanitary control, (b) the international police control and (c) the custom control.
We are here to help, to provide solutions. If you are considering to travel to Chile and book one of our nature programs, we will be delighted to assist you through this process.
Chile is once again open after the pandemic, but still we need to take care of ourselves. Chile’s Open Nature beckons now and there is no better place than its remote, wild landscapes and staggering wildlife. See you soon!
