Special Journeys for "Challenging Species" in Chile & Patagonia

Chile and Patagonia hold together a great array of unique and interesting mammals and birds. This condition obeys to several factors but perhaps the biogeographical isolation and habitat diversity are the main reasons for that.

For nearly 30 years, Far South Expeditions have strived to search and find these iconic species during the course of our journeys.

We have obviously realized that the prospects of finding rare species are usually daunting, but we are always enthusiastic and eager to accept the challenge. In addition to that, we also count on the tireless determination and patience of our guests, willing to put a lot of effort, both physical and mental, during these dedicated quests.

We are delighted to feature our “hardcore” trip portfolio aimed to find iconic and difficult species of mammals and birds, always with a focus on our patch, Patagonia and Chile.

Special Mammals |

We have pioneered Puma watching trips in southern Chile’s Torres del Paine since 2001, where the conservation situation for this iconic cat was totally different in comparison to current times. Since then, our efforts have being directed to refine a more respectful approach to pumas in the wild, in close association and advice with ranchers of the area.

Now, to the small cats! During the last 10 years, we have conducted dedicated trip to look for elusive cats.

Birding is deep in our roots, birds are part of our daily life and main interests.

The geography and habitat complexity of Patagonia and Chile as well as the presence of the vast eastern Pacific and South Atlantic Oceans, have allowed the presence of rare species, some of them with an extremely restricted range.
