Running with vigorous leaps on a flat-calm sea, a Peruvian Diving Petrel, Pelecanoides garnotii takes off near our boat off the coast of Arica, Chile’s northernmost province. One of the four members of the genus, it is closely associated with the cold and productive waters of the Humboldt Current, one of the richest marine ecosystems in the planet.
