Chiloe Island nature trip. Today we will take a ferry across the Chacao Strait to visit the wonderful Chiloé Island, a magical realm with its own traditions, customs, legends, cuisine and music where time has stood still since the first Spaniard settlers arrived and mixed with the native people back in the XVI (16th) century. Picturesque agricultural and maritime landscapes, colorful and unique stilt houses, fishermen’s boats and wooden churches provide with plenty of subjects for landscape photography, everything framed in beautiful and dramatic natural settings.

This green island is populated by scattered villages and small towns where people still build houses, churches and boats using materials and ancient techniques passed from one generation to the next, and live off fishing, collecting seafood and cultivating crops like potatoes, of which this island is one of the main centers of origin and dispersion in the world, with dozens of varieties grown here.

Once in the island we’ll drive to the little fisherman’s cove of Puñihuil, where we’ll board a boat to the nearby islets that are home to several species of seabirds and marine waterfowl like Rock Cormorant, Red-legged Cormorant, Imperial Cormorant, Kelp Goose and Flightless Steamer Duck, and especially, the only known mixed colony of both Humboldt and Magellanic penguins. Marine mammals like South American Sea Lion and Marine Otter are regulars here as well, and the approach to wildlife from the water and the low eye-level from the boat are ideal for wildlife photography.

Later, on our way back, we’ll visit Caulin Bay, an important stopover for flocks of migrating shorebirds like Hudsonian Godwit, Red Knot and Black Skimmer. Chiloe Island nature trip

What the trip includes/excludes

The above prices are per person in US Dollars. All payments are in US Dollars.

The trip price includes: Private transportation and birding guide services during the tour, picnic lunch and snacks, and one bottle of mineral water. VAT of the tour is also included.
The trip price excludes: Tipping, travel insurance, à la carte dishes, alcoholic drinks, and anything else of a purely personal nature.

To register for this tour, complete the online registration form and return it by email with a deposit of US$ 150 per person. Full payment of the tour fee is due four (4) weeks prior to tour departure.

Cancellation Policy

Notice of cancellation can only be accepted IN WRITING from the person who signed the booking form and takes effect on the day such noticed is received by us.
Refunds are made according to the following schedule: If cancellation is made between 120 and 90 days before departure, the deposit is not refundable, but any payments covering the balance of the fee will be refunded. If cancellation is made fewer than three weeks before departure date, no refund is available.
