The climate in southern Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park and the surrounding Laguna Amarga Ranch, can be quite chilly and changeable all year round.
There may be quite warm during the summer days (up to 20°C / 68°F). However, due to the prevailing westerly winds, especially during the southern spring and summer (September to February), the thermal sensation is generally fairly low even in the “warm” season. Expect cold days and even snowfall at almost any time of the year.
Winters in southern Patagonia are cold, with likely snow falls and short hours of daylight. Frost conditions shall be expected, especially during the mornings. Even though winter days are in general rather calm, there might be windy conditions at times, with gusts up to 60 km/h (37 mph).
Due to the generally cool and variable conditions throughout the year, we recommend you to bring to your puma trip several layers of cloths. Be prepared for long periods in the field, waiting and photographing pumas and other wildlife. But expect the weather also to get sunny and warmer, hence there’ll be less need of clothing.
The sun radiation is strong! Be sure to bring effective sunscreen, good sunglasses and a hat in order to protect yourself. Packing List Puma Trips Patagonia
