Pali Aike hiking and nature. Pali Aike is a unique volcanic region in the Patagonian steppe. The national park is located on the border with Argentina and protects the local volcanic landscapes and their inhabitants.
Join us on our trip to this truly fascinating area. On a three-hour hike through grotesque lava fields and volcanic cones, you will learn a lot about the natural history of this place. The area is also rich in different inhabitants. Despite extremely difficult climatic and geological conditions, numerous different birds live here, as well as some mammals and reptiles.
On our circular hike, we cross various lava fields and marvel at the sight of massive volcanic cones. Among the bird species we are likely to see during the day, are the Grey-hooded Sierra-Finch, Austral Negrito, Cinnamon-bellied and Dark-faced Ground-Tyrants. We also have a good chance of seeing Cinereous Harriers, Falcons and Caracaras. Lizards, for their part, enjoy being warmed by the sun on the dark lava stones. Individuals of the genus Liolaemus are particularly common. In the steppe, just outside the rugged lava fields, there are mammals such as guanaco, gray fox, Patagonian skunk and Big hairy Armadillo.
