Detailed Itinerary and Activities
Early morning with the first light of the day, we will take a boat trip into the Reloncavi Sound to look for seabirds, particularly the recently discovered Pincoya Storm Petrel, a new species to science, overlooked during many years because of its strong similarities to sympatric Wilson’s Storm Petrels. The range of this species seems to be very local and restricted to the nearby waters south of Puerto Montt and between Chiloé Island and the Continent.

The inshore waters of Patagonia’s northern archipelago is the only-known habitat for this storm-petrel, one of the rarest and seldom-seen of the tubenoses. We will also have the opportunity to see other seabirds including Black-browed Albatross, Southern Giant Petrel, Sooty Shearwater, Chilean Skua, Parasitic Jaeger (Arctic Skua), Kelp Gull and South American Tern. Pods of Peale’s Dolphin and South American Sea Lion are usually seen during the course of the navigation. Puerto Montt pelagic trip.
