Our Remote Camps of Patagonia trip combines a stay in the rugged and seldom-visited mountains of Sierra Baguales, with a memorable journey to the Magellan Straits and its Humpback Whales.
While exploring the stunning beauty and biodiversity of these two remote locations, you will enjoy the warmth, hospitality and amenities of these two unique camps.
As a benefit for our guests, and as part of the introduction of this new program, we offer the overnight in Punta Arenas between the two trip segments, free of charge.
During the first segment of the trip, you will discover the pristine archipelagic region of the Magellan Straits, at the most remote corners of Patagonia, while watching Humpback whales. You will be amazed by the large and interesting array of marine mammals and seabirds occurring at the Francisco Coloane Marine Park. Our small group will be based two nights at the comfortable eco-camp and scientific field station of Carlos III Island.
The Baguales Range is a secluded, remote and seldom visited mountain region of Chilean Patagonia, located quite near from Torres del Paine National Park. The jagged escarpment has multiple and colorful rock layers, containing rich fossil deposits formed some 60+ millions years ago. Sierra Baguales is the habitat of vast herds of Guanaco as well as an interesting cast of Andean birds such as Condor and Darwin’s Rhea among many other specialties. During the southern summer months, from November onwards, there is a myriad of alpine flowers, creating a most interesting subject to study and photograph. The hiking opportunities are also superb. You will be exploring areas, literally with no other human beings.
The brand-new Baguales Glamping is an exciting operation which allow us to explore this remote gaucho land. We will be based in comfortable domes, all with en-suite facilities and central heating and will enjoy the exclusivity to have this huge area just for ourselves. With the help of a suitable all-terrain UTV vehicle, we will be able to approach remote corners of this property and walk back, enjoying the biodiversity and the quietness of Sierra Baguales. Additional horseback-riding adventures and fly-fishing trips can be arranged in anticipation and at an extra cost.
