Jürgen Schulmeister
Birding & Naturalist Guide
Born in Punta Arenas, Jürgen Schulmeister is a German-Chilean naturalist guide with over two decades of field experience. His passion for birds began at the age of 12, setting the foundation for a career closely tied to nature and wildlife. He later started guiding in Torres del Paine National Park, where he also specialized in puma tracking. Jürgen studied Architecture at the University of Chile, focusing on Landscape and Territorial Planning—an area that naturally complemented his early interests in ecology, birds, mammals, and Chile’s diverse flora. His solid background in wildlife photography further strengthens his broad natural history knowledge.
At Far South Expeditions, Jürgen leads and guides birdwatching tours throughout Chile, documenting and photographing the country’s remarkable birdlife. He is also part of the guiding team for Patagonia’s renowned puma-watching programs, contributing his experience in animal tracking and field observation.
In parallel, he works as an environmental consultant specializing in radar ornithology, participating directly in fieldwork and in the development of monitoring methodologies. Always driven by curiosity and discovery, Jürgen shares every wildlife encounter with enthusiasm, guiding travelers through the landscapes of his beloved Chile.
