The Bird Fair. This upcoming month of August, like every August for the past 30 years now, Rutland Waters preserve will host thousands of birdwatchers, ornithologists, bird enthusiasts, naturalists and all kinds of wildlife buffs coming from different walks of life that will be gathering in a yearly ritual that has grown to become the largest bird- and nature-oriented event in the planet, with more than 20 thousand visitors and 450-odd exhibitors, figures that have no parallel in similar events around the globe. So, what is it that makes this particular get-together such an extraordinary and superlative affair? Well, it may be actually a number of factors, starting with the infectious passion for birds and wilderness that transpires every aspect of the Fair, from the original concept to the clockwork organization, relentless effort and hard work that are invested into its every edition, year after year. The Bird Fair.
The Birdfair came of age and turned out to become the most important birdwatching event in the world a long time ago now, but this fact has never betrayed the spirit and vibe that it radiates as a familiar gathering of friends that share a common passion, and it is that friendly and laid-back essence of being essentially a labour of love that has probably attracted so many people to it through all these years, and still continues to do so. The Bird Fair.
This is, however, far from being just an occassion for birders and nature lovers to meet each other and exchange experiences, or for birding and wildlife-oriented businesses to promote their products and check the pulse of the industry, or the state-of-the-art in birding optics. This is also a great chance for all those companies and people to be able to do some real-world, solid contribution to wildlife conservation not only locally in Great Britain, but worldwide through various cooperation schemes and contributions to preservation and environmental causes in places as diverse as Polynesia or Patagonia. Just to show, last year the Birdfair raised more than three hundred thousand pounds for bird conservation projects, a sum that will no doubt make a difference in terms of putting to practice preservation plans and achieving significant goals.
This year, as we at Far South Expeditions continue with the tradition of being present at the Birdfair as we celebrate our own 20th anniversary ourselves, we kindly invite you to enjoy and participate in this, the most important and biggest of all birding events, the British Birdwatching Fair, and visit us at stand 56, marquee 6, where we´ll be more than pleased to inform you about our programmes and answer all your inquiries.
