Chile’s Covid numbers involving active cases, positivity rates and new infections have steadily and consistently plummeted during the last three months. Hospitals are less stressed by the treatment needs of Covid patients and gradually, domestic travel is arising once again, as a vibrant and promising economic activity, filling hotels and restaurants. But we have been closed for so long to international travelers, so that the authorities are still very cautious, given the international spread scenario of the delta variant, identified as the main threat for the health system of any country.
October will be the main test for the travel industry in Chile as fully vaccinated travelers from abroad will be allowed again to get into Chile after many months of strict closure. The procedure is still gradual and conservative as there is an annoying “BUT”, a 5-day quarantine period. This requirement is not practical to operate our trips and programs at the early stage of this opening (October 2021), but we envisage less restrictions, from mid-November onwards, as there is an anticipated large flow of people heading to Antarctica (through Chile). Other announcements we are expecting for November/December are the opening of regional borders to Argentinian Patagonia and the opening of Easter Island.
From the 1st of October 2021, the entry requirements to Chile for international travelers and visitors will be the following:
-
- Apply for a Mobility Pass (Pase de Movilidad), a digital document provided by the Ministry of Health. The travelers must upload beforehand an official vaccination certificate to the online platform mevacuno.gob.cl. The accepted vaccines by Chilean health authorities are Pfizer-BioNTech, Janssen, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharm, CanSino and Sputnik.
- Apply for an online travel certificate at www.c19.cl
- A negative PCR test. This sample must be taken no more than 72 hours before boarding the plane.
- Medical insurance with a minimum of 30,000 USD to cover any personal medical and logistical expenses.
The authorized airports at this early opening stage are (1) Santiago international airport, (2) Iquique and (3) Antofagasta airports.
We are committed to give you accurate and hopefully, more positive news regarding a more simplified entry procedure into Chile very soon. We strongly believe the current restrictions will not comprise a quarantine period from November onwards.
Stay tuned and thanks so much for your invaluable support!
