Because two decades of pioneering in nature tourism are not your ordinary, everyday event, Far South Expeditions Season 2018 catalogue comes with airs of celebration and novelties. Time-tested and successful tours are joined this time by new expedition routes and programmes aimed to attract not only our traditional Northern customers, but also the Latin American market.
Its mix of unique biodiversity, millennary culture and archaeology makes Guatemala our season’s highlighted destination. With two departure dates in May and September, the 10-day tour is devised for groups no bigger than eight people and begins at Ciudad de Guatemala, the country’s capital city. Las Guacamayas Biological Station, where archaeological excavations are currently under way, the Mayan citadel of Tikal and the beautiful Lake Atitlan are some of the locations that will allow guests to appreciate jungle, rainforest, volcanoes, coffee plantations and the exhuberant sounds and colours in this Biosphere Reserve.
To admire the stunning landscape and watch the wildlife in Chile from the Atacama Desert south to Patagonia is the aim of Chile’s Best Wildlife, a new 19-day programme starting at Santiago and including chances of seeing some of our most iconic animals such as guanaco, foxes, Andean Condor, King Penguin and of course Puma to name a few, all in an ever-changing landscape of deserts, valleys, rivers, woods, lakes, glaciers and mountains. This trip departs on November, with a minimum of two guests.
Another novelty is our birding tour in partnership with Antarctica XXI by land, sea and air to two of the most pristine and wild destinations in the world, Patagonia and Antarctica. During the 12-day expedition departing from Punta Arenas, guests will have a unique insight into the rich wildlife of the Brunswick Peninsula and Tierra del Fuego, with more than sixty species to watch and enjoy, followed by a thrilling navigation to Cape Horn and sailing across the famed Drake Passage to reach the South Shetland Islands, gateway to Antarctica, where they’ll stay for a day before taking a private flight back to Punta Arenas. Two departures in November, led by the experienced ornithologists Enrique Couve and Rodrigo Tapia.
Other news are the repositioning, after several years, of Navarino Island and Cape Horn as destinations. The four-day tour, starting from Punta Arenas towards the remote Puerto Williams, suthernmost settlement in the world, including a flight over the stunning Darwin’s Range -last stronghold of the Andes before sinking in the sea- and land-based excursions to discover the abundant wildlife.
In this new catalogue, Far South Expeditions keeps, however, its spirit and formula: this isn´t just about offering sightseeing and good photo opportunities, but to provide an whole experience of intimate contact with the local landscape, wildlife and culture. That is our commitment and our seal.
