The Navarino Island truly impresses due to its remoteness, untouched nature and unique biodiversity. Located on the southern shores of the Beagle Channel, in the far south of Patagonia, this Chilean island offers everything that birders, nature photographers and outdoor enthusiasts are looking for.
This trip starts with a scenic 1-hour flight from Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams; in a clear day we can enjoy tremendous views of the icy peaks and massive glaciers of the Darwin Range. We will have a four night stay in the small town of just over 2,000 inhabitants.
We will have a full day boat trip in the Beagle Channel and its adjacent fjords, we will observe a variety of marine birds and mammals, including Albatrosses, Petrels, Terns, Steamerducks, amongst others. Depending on the time of year, we may also see dolphins, whales or orcas, including great chances for Humpback Whale. The landscape is simply breathtaking with a myriad of islands, deep fjords and imposing glaciers, right at the foots of the southern Andes.
Immerse yourself in the southern beech forests at the end of the world, and observe bird species such as Magellanic Woodpecker, White-crested Elaenia, White-throated Treerunner and Thorn-tailed Rayadito.
At slightly higher altitudes, exploring the barren hills we will have great view points await you. In clear conditions, the southern part of the big island of Tierra del Fuego can be seen, too. We also have a good chances of spotting bird species such as the Andean Condor and White-throated Caracara; we may even find the rare and local White-bellied Seedsnipe.
