Victor Vega
Puma-tracker | Expedition Leader | Birding Guide
Victor was born in the countryside of Temuco, the region of Araucania, Chile, where he discovered and developed his interest for nature and being in harmony with nature thanks to his dad.
He always knew that he wanted to be a guide, and after finishing his career in tourism and hospitality, he worked several years as a mountain and ski guide in Chile. Since these years, he has successfully completed various courses in first aid, rescue operations and others related to his career as a mountain and ski guide.
After 10 years of working as a mountain guide and one year working in hospitality in Canada, he spent 2 years guiding on a cruise ship that sails along the Southern Patagonian Ice field until he ended up residing in Puerto Natales, Patagonia in 2016. He started working as a local guide for a North American travel agency. He has been working mainly in Torres del Paine National Park, doing trekking or tours for people with a special interest in geology, glaciology and local history.
Ever since he has been an avid birder and nature observer. Being constantly in nature for work, however, his interest for birds and wildlife in general started to grow. This led him to Pantanal, Brazil, where he used to lead naturalists and photographers in the search of birds and jaguars. He also went to Connecticut, USA, where he was working in a touristic project aiming to identify and observe black bears, bobcats, and birds. He has also done birdwatching in Europe and various Latin American countries on a hobby level.
Today, Victor is a specialized puma tracker and guide in Patagonia. Years of its observation and studying its behavior made him fall in love with this fascinating feline.
